Organized in 1978 to confront the extensive deterioration and demolition of housing in the Islandview Village neighborhood on Detroit's lower east side, CMHC continues to be a stabilizing force.
Church of the Messiah Housing Corporation (CMHC) is a nonprofit tax-exempt organization established by the Church of the Messiah (Messiah) in 1978. Its primary objectives are to provide affordable housing for low-income households and foster community-based economic development in the Islandview Village neighborhood located near Belle Isle in Detroit.
CMHC passionately believes that affordable housing provides an essential anchor for low-income families to achieve greater economic stability. This belief is a cornerstone of the church’s overall empowerment mission. CMHC is actively developing partnerships to recapitalize and renovate its current housing projects. Plans are also underway to develop additional, critically needed, affordable housing units, as new market-rate housing development is resulting in rents that are unaffordable to low- and moderate-income households.
We envision a strong, safe, self-sustaining community where quality, affordable housing, and employment opportunities, as well as business enterprises, exist. An area that is well maintained, with a strong sense of community, making this a Neighborhood of Choice for residents of the City of Detroit.
Everyone has a talent.
At the Church of the Messiah Housing Corporation, we acknowledge and celebrate the abilities of each individual. Perhaps you can answer the phones or assist with filing. Or, you may be able to assist with graphic design, journalism, event management, communication, website design/management, etc. Any assistance you can give will be greatly appreciated.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions.
